Mauka Makai

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Maui’s southern coastline, the Mauka Makai project was conceived as a multi-generational tropical retreat. The story behind this home is rooted in a deep respect for the Hawaiian landscape, bridging the gap between the majestic mountains (Mauka) and the serene ocean (Makai). The clients desired a secluded haven that felt intrinsically connected to its lush surroundings while providing an atmosphere of effortless, relaxed luxury for their large extended family.

To achieve this vision, our design approach focused on blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. We utilized a palette of rich, natural materials, incorporating locally sourced woods, textural stones, and breezy, organic textiles that mirror the island’s natural hues. Custom furnishings were scaled for comfort and durability without sacrificing sophistication.

Ultimately, the goal was to create a timeless sanctuary that promotes relaxation and connection. By harmonizing architectural elements with bespoke interior details, we delivered a space that not only frames the panoramic ocean views but also serves as a welcoming backdrop for decades of family memories.
